Housewarming Gift

Friendly Street Sign
6 feet tall, steel and aluminum

Tom created this housewarming gift
for our friend Denise.
The home address sign features a solar-powered light
so all of her guests will be able to find her new home.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone lived on
'Friendly Street'?

Your feline friend,

Fiona's Garden

Our nearly 6-year-old friend Fiona and her family
moved to a new home last year.
Fiona's mother and family friends helped
create a new garden
on their hillside overlooking the Columbia River.

When her mother was planning the garden,
Fiona asked if Tom might make a special
sign for the garden.

On Saturday, Tom surprised Fiona
with this steel, aluminum and copper birthday present.

 Fiona and Tom
A beautiful, sunny, warm July 4th today!
I napped in the garden.

Happy Birthday Fiona!

DA KANI KRITTAS

This past weekend, after a long snowy winter,
Tom and Margaret were finally able
to drive to Seattle to install the gift
Tom made for our dear friend Jean.

Tom and Jean share a similar sense of humor.
They had great fun collaborating on the design
which depicts a typical
Kanikapila session at Jean's house
(in this case, performed by cats and mice).

I think the hula dancers are pretty and
the mice look mighty tasty!

Hawaiian Ipu (percussion gourd)
and Kapu (drum)

I think she likes it!

Time for another nap
in my fleece blanket from Aunty Jean.
Aloha!

KA MEA HOE WA'A

Tom's most recent work has been accepted
for inclusion in the
2017 BIG ART
outdoor sculpture exhibition in Hood River.

KA MEA HOE WA'A
(The Paddler)
was inspired by ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs.

In this case, The Paddler
takes on the contemporary sport of
standup paddle boarding,
popular in The Columbia River Gorge.

Testing stances for
The Paddler

KEA MEA HOE WA'A
will soon be transported to Hood River for installation.
Until then, he is practicing his winter kayaking technique.
KA MEA HOE WA'A

It's been very cold and snowy here this past month.
From my window bed, I watch chickadees, finches,
quail, blue jays and hummingbirds at the feeders.

Recently, a wiley coyote has been lurking in the shadows
along the nearly frozen creek.
I think he is hungry.
I must be careful.

Stay safe and warm,
 JUNIOR BOY
